Goodbye Tita Cory

Yellow flags on lamp posts. Yellow ribbons on cars and doors of establishments. Yellow ribbonettes on people’s lapels. This yellow fever is reminiscent of a people mourning a fallen hero and seeking the return of democracy. But this time it is a symbol of a nation in prayer for the woman who gave the country back its freedom.

Cora Jacob's Bags at the Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam Part 2Cora Jacob's Bags at the Museum of Bags and Purses in Amsterdam Part 2

A trip to Amsterdam just had to happen soon just for me to visit the Museum of Bags and Purses while Cora Jacob's bags are still on exhibit, thanks to Maan's writing about it. It's a 2 hour trainride away but taking first class and a wonderful friend made the trip feel like it just took minutes to reach Central Station. From here, it's just an easy few minutes walk.

This is my second visit to the museum, and it's definitely not my last. Upon entering, you're right at the wonderfully bright museum shop where they sell bags made by young Dutch designers, and currently, bags by Cora Jacob. Miss Sigrid Ivo, director and curator of the museum greets me warmly while I was checking out La Cora's bags. Miss Ivo walks me over to the exhibit and exudes great enthusiasm in describing her amazement on the color combinations and the use of local materials in creating such exquisite evening bags. She continues on to think out loud on how beautiful the Philippines must be.

It is said that the more expensive bags were sold dduring the first week of the exhibit. At the time of my visit, the most expensive bag was 180 euros (11,280 pesos). The more expensive bags have been sold out. These have been snapped up by the who's who in the Netherlands during the opening and around a hundred bags have been sold within the first week!
